Context

Farmacia Jiménez had built its reputation over many years in the physical world: professional expertise, personal attention and a direct relationship with its customers.

It was more than a pharmacy.

It was a place people trusted.

Moving online was not primarily a question of visibility or sales. The challenge was preserving that trust in a medium where relationships work differently and credibility cannot be taken for granted.

In healthcare, trust is not a differentiator.

It is the foundation everything else depends on.

The Challenge

Digitising a pharmacy means designing an experience that preserves perceptions of professionalism, reliability and expert guidance in a completely different environment.

Every interaction needed to reinforce the feeling that there was a real healthcare professional behind the service, creating a buying experience free from doubt and unnecessary friction.

The goal was not simply to enable online sales.

It was to bring the trust built in the physical world into the digital one without losing its essence.

Understanding the System Before Designing

Online pharmacies operate within constraints that cannot be ignored: specific regulations, high reputational risk and user expectations that differ significantly from those of conventional e-commerce.

Before designing anything, we needed to understand that system in depth.

We analysed European benchmarks, reviewed the regulatory framework and studied how users actually behaved.

This was not about designing something better.

It was about understanding what could undermine trust.

This phase helped us:

  • Understand the real constraints of the digital pharmacy environment: regulatory, reputational and behavioural.
  • Define the conditions required to translate the pharmacy’s values into the online experience.

Designing for Trust

Trust is not built through functionality alone.

It is defined by how users interpret every interaction.

In online healthcare purchases, many barriers are emotional rather than operational: concerns about safety, reliability and the professional judgement behind each recommendation.

Is it safe? Can I trust it? Am I being guided by a qualified professional?

Those questions could not be answered through content alone.

They required a system.

The architecture, navigation and interface components were designed to reduce uncertainty at every step.

This phase helped us:

  • Turn user concerns into design principles.
  • Create an experience where trust is not communicated but built.

A Visual System in Service of Trust

The visual design had a single objective: making users feel they were in a professional, trustworthy and human environment.

Nothing should create noise or distract from what mattered.

Every decision, from typography and colour to photography and interaction design, served that purpose.

This phase helped us:

  • Develop a complete visual guide with colour palette, typography and consistent UI components.
  • Create a documented and reusable interaction system.
  • Define a photographic art direction that maintained consistency across the experience.

Measuring to Validate

After launch, we established clear measurement criteria: heatmaps, session recordings and conversion funnel analysis.

The results came quickly: significant increases in traffic, new customers and revenue.

Design does not end when it is implemented.

It starts proving its value when it is measured.

What Changed

The pharmacy did not simply go digital.

It became a business capable of conveying the trust it had built offline in an online environment without losing its identity.

More than a decade later, the platform remains active and continues to evolve.

Today, Farmacia Jiménez is one of the leading pharmacy e-commerce businesses in Spain.

Elastic’s role focused on strategy and design. The technical implementation was carried out later by other specialists.
